The second release in a series of songs written for people on Twitter who simply requested that I write them a song.
This one was inspired by cupcakes, one of the original 13 states of the Union and the love of odd time signatures.
- lyrics
- Virginia never looked this way
in the footage I saw when I was young
And now everyday I sit at my desk
drawing stick figures, how my day is spent.
And all that I want is a bakery
that I'd call my own; name it after me.
Making cupcakes and little cherry pies
and I'd put them all out for passers-by
Morning time I drink chocolate
cause I need something just a little sweet
to remind me that I might someday be
everything I had in mind once upon a time...
...moves so fast now that I'm not young.
I'm not old, I guess, but I feel that way
When I turn the key and start driving home
from this factory. One more day is done.
Moonlight falls, and I'm lying still
with my eyelids closed, playing picture shows.
A measuring cup and a rolling pin.
Piping bags always make me smile again.
And then I drift off til the thawing starts.
Til another day breaks another heart
made of cinnamon and placed on the left side
of a big bear made of gingerbread.
